Brenda Song shared new details at the season 2 premiere of “Running Point.” This comes nearly a month after she publicly criticized Alaska Airlines for separating her and Macaulay Culkin from their toddler sons on a flight. Song shares sons Dakota and Carson with her fiancé, Culkin. She revealed that the moment hit a nerve because she did what parents get told to do, i.e. plan ahead and book properly, and still things went haywire.
Brenda Song details Alaska Airlines providing toddler sons with seats 20 rows behind parents
Brenda Song exclusively told PEOPLE that Alaska Airlines separated her toddler sons from Song and Macaulay Culkin. She said, “Everyone is like, ‘Oh, parents are always trying to take the easy way out and not picking seats together,’ ”adding, “And then when you do all the right things and things still don’t go right, it’s crazy.”
Song said, “the hardest thing for me was them expecting my 3- and 4-year-olds to be able to sit by themselves 20 rows behind us and like with a stranger.”
But Song stressed that she understood how tense situations unfold in reality, especially when staff tries to sort things out mid-flight, telling PEOPLE that the moment felt difficult because she knew “people were just trying to do their jobs,” and that everyone was trying to solve the issue. In the end, her family got where they needed to go safely.
Song said that “It all worked out,” and “We’re all happy and healthy,” calling it “a very small problem in the big scale of things.”
Song first raised the issue on Instagram Stories on March 21, writing, “I didn’t know when you book your first class tickets 6 months in advance for your family of six for your son’s birthday — @alaskaair can just give away your seats the morning of with no warning — splitting up you and your 3 and 4 year old kids.” She added, “We will never fly @alaskaair again and neither should you.”
Alaska Airlines later told PEOPLE that the experience was “unacceptable and not reflective of the care” they aim to provide.
