Gayle King’s CBS Contract Length Details Revealed by Source

It seems Gayle King may not have a very long future at CBS News, as previously reported. A new report has allegedly shed light on the details of the broadcast journalist’s contract with the network. Rumors about King’s exit from CBS Mornings have been circulating in recent months, especially after Bari Weiss was appointed editor-in-chief of CBS News and began overseeing structural changes. However, she has shot down claims about her departure.

Gayle King’s CBS contract details revealed by sources

In January 2026, King reportedly had lunch with Bari Weiss, where the pair discussed the former’s future with CBS. At the time, they had reached an agreement with a representative telling Page Six that King would “have a very long future” with the network.

However, that seems to no longer be the case. The outlet reported that King has only signed a one-year contract with the network. Additionally, speculation suggests her gig at CBS Mornings isn’t secure.

Moreover, the outlet, citing a source, said that King could shift to a new role similar to that of her former CBS This Morning co-anchor, Norah O’Donnell. The latter covered the “Evening News” program before becoming a senior correspondent.

The editor-at-large for Oprah Daily, whose contract was set to expire in May, signed an extension last month. The New York Post, citing a source, reported at the time that there was buzz that she took a huge pay cut, about 50%, in exchange for staying at the network.

After extending her contract, she shared a statement promising continued dedication to her work at CBS News and CBS Mornings.

“Rumors of my demise were inaccurate and greatly exaggerated,” she stated (via WSJ). “CBS News is my longtime home, and I am committed to our mission. I’m excited about continuing at ‘CBS Mornings.’ As always, I’m open to new adventures here and ready to go. It took a minute, but we got there. And now that we are here, I am all in.”

Meanwhile, an insider speculated that King’s short extension was influenced by “uncertainty surrounding the morning show at large.” They added, “There’s so much turnover. There’s not a permanent third host, it’s a lot of uncertainty, so flexibility for all parties is a good thing.”
