Why Kylie Jenner’s Boyfriend Is ‘Laying Low’ After Backlash — Source

Kylie Jenner‘s boyfriend, Timothee Chalamet, left people enraged with his controversial comments on ballet and opera during his Oscars campaign. Now, he is allegedly trying to mend his reputation by “laying low” and refraining from any public appearances for a while.

While speaking with “Interstellar” co-star Matthew McConaughey at a Variety & CNN town hall in February, Timothee Chalamet said “no one cares” about ballet or opera. The comment garnered him immense backlash and even negatively impacted his Oscars 2026 campaign. He had a Best Actor nomination for his role in “Marty Supreme.” However, “Sinners” star Michael B. Jordan took the trophy home.

A source has told National Enquirer that friends and loved ones, including Kylie Jenner, are unable to cheer Chalamet up. “Timmy has had a tough 2026 in terms of his public image and the Oscar slipping through his fingers,” the source said. “Pulling back from public appearances, podcasts and interviews was the only card he could play, and the idea is to make people miss him a bit before he’s everywhere again.”

Reflecting on whether or not this tactic will work, the insider said, “The bigger question among Timmy and his team is about how much long-term damage he did to himself and his image.” The third and final instalment of Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” franchise is set for release in late December. Meanwhile, a sequel to “Wonka” is in pre-production.

The source noted, “He has the opportunity to win back the good will … of his audience. Timmy needs to lay low and he needs to let the work speak for itself. Thankfully, that process has already begun.” Chalamet won the Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for his work in “Marty Supreme.” His reported plan to keep a low profile might help him reconstruct the narrative when he steps out for the “Dune 3” press run.
