Royal expert Ingrid Seward claims Camilla once had serious reservations about being King Charles’s wife (via Marie Claire). In her book, “My Mother And I,” the author claims that “the full implication” of stepping into such a prominent royal role left Camilla feeling “frightened.” She allegedly resisted being drawn into what would be the intense and demanding nature of royal life.
The expert further suggests that Camilla even tried to discourage the idea of marriage in its early stages. Seward writes that she reportedly told Charles it “would not be a good idea.” She is also said to have described the prospect as unrealistic among close circles. According to the account, Camilla believed that Charles’s sense of duty would always take priority, making a traditional partnership difficult.
Despite this hesitation, Charles is said to have remained committed to the relationship. The expert claims he was determined for Camilla to be accepted within the royal family and did not want her to remain in the background. “[He] refused to contemplate her hiding away,” Seward noted.
Camilla’s cautious approach is also said to have extended to the speed at which the relationship became public. According to the expert, she preferred a slower pace, influenced in part by public opinion and advice from royal aides.
