Donald Trump’s Numbers ‘Lower’ Than Joe Biden’s in New Poll, Says CNN Analyst

President Donald Trump‘s approval rating on inflation has plunged to a low unseen by his predecessors, including Joe Biden and Jimmy Carter, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll and analysis from CNN’s chief data analyst Harry Enten. The poll revealed that 70% of polled Americans disapprove of Trump’s handling of rising prices, while only 21% approve. Further, Trump’s net approval on inflation is -49 points this month.

CNN analyst compares Donald Trump’s number to Joe Biden

The CNN analyst compared Donald Trump’s numbers to Joe Biden in a new poll and described the data as unprecedented. “Donald John Trump is in the worst position he has ever been on inflation, and more than that, these are the worst numbers I’ve ever seen for any president,” Enten said (via The Daily Beast).

He then compared it to Joe Biden, whose presidency was severely damaged by soaring inflation. Despite that political burden, it seems Biden never sank to Trump’s current level. “You remember Joe Biden? Inflation absolutely crushed his presidency. But at his worst, according to Ipsos, he was just 43 points underwater,” Enten explained. “So Trump is lower now on inflation than Joe Biden ever was, according to Ipsos.”

Further, he pointed out a critical detail that the inflation rate today sits at roughly one-third of its June 2022 peak under Biden. “And I will note that the inflation rate right now is only about a third as it was back in June of 2022, yet Trump’s numbers are significantly worse than Biden’s ever were,” he added.

The historical comparison did not stop with Joe Biden. Enten cited data from Ipsos and American National Election Studies showing that Jimmy Carter, whose presidency was defined by double-digit inflation, recorded a net approval on prices of -46 points in October 1980. At the time, inflation stood at 12.8 percent. Trump’s -49 rating this month, with inflation near three percent, now exceeds even Carter’s low-water mark.

Donald Trump’s overall approval rating has fallen to 34%, a new low in this survey series. “It’s mind-blowing. You just never see numbers like this,” Enten stated.
