Bachelorette Alum Katie Thurston Bravely Prepares For Double Mastectomy After Stage 4 Breast Cancer; Husband Calls Her ‘Beautiful Badass’

Amid her ongoing battle with breast cancer, Bachelorette alum Katie Thurston underwent a double mastectomy.

On April 29, the new homeowner posted an update on her Boobie Broadcast channel on Instagram. She’s been sharing regular updates ever since she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in February 2025. Her cancer has since metastasized to her liver.

“Today is surgery day!” she announced on Instagram. Thank you all for your support leading up to this. Your prayers, love, and positive energy have been the embrace I’ve needed over the last year,” she wrote. “I still can’t believe I’m at this moment. Surgery is 3 hours. I look forward to waking up on the other side of this!”

Katie’s husband of one year, comedian Jeff Arcuri, posted a snap of his wife after arriving at the hospital.

“This beautiful badass just went in for surgery for her double mastectomy,” he wrote on his Instagram Stories. “She is in amazing hands and spirits are HIGH. I’ll be updating everyone as soon as I can!”

Later in the day, Jeff shared an update happily announcing that “everything went GREAT.” In addition, his wife also shared a video from her hospital bed. She appreciated that her husband has “taken care of me so well” and will be by her side during her recovery.

Recently, Katie had an emotional breakdown during a doctor’s appointment. “I crumble on the floor hyperventilating and sobbing,” she wrote on her Boobie Broadcast channel. “The same way I did when I first got the call it was cancer … I can’t wait to be done with the surgery.”

“I pick myself up, and the pieces of my broken heart, and keep pushing on,” she continued. Not only is she “losing pieces of my body,” but she’s also losing her “spirit. Thankful for my friends, my family, my community, my Jeff. My [dog] Charlie. You. Thank you for being here during the hardest chapter of my life.”

Despite false reports of her death, Katie is focused on living her life. “I refuse to call it a terminal illness,” she said. “No one is promised tomorrow. Why waste the days I’ve been given stressing about death?”
