Gavin Newsom Accuses Donald Trump of Exploiting WHCD Shooting

Gavin Newsom recently criticized Donald Trump, alleging that the President was using the aftermath of the April 25 WHCD shooting to target political enemies and silence critics, instead of attempting to unite the country. Meanwhile, federal authorities charged former FBI director James Comey for an old social media post. Furthermore, Melania Trump started a campaign against talk show host Jimmy Kimmel.

The Governor of California sharply criticized the two-time President for his stance after the April 25, 2026, attack at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner (WHCD). The latter, along with many other senior officials from his administration, were present at the event.

Gavin Newsom alleged that Donald Trump was using the shooting to target his political rivals and suppress critical voices. “Well, hell of a way to bring the country together as his press secretary was condemning Democrats for their rhetoric,” he said in an interview with Brian Tyler Cohen.

Newsom further alleged that Trump had the “unique duty” to lower the national temperature, a duty he claimed the POTUS abandoned for political gain. “Violence and rhetoric should be condemned on all sides,” he said. “I’m not going to ‘both sides’ it, but you know what? It goes in both directions. He’s the President of the United States and used it to not only exploit the ballroom but to direct [FCC Chairman] Brendan Carr to continue to suppress free speech.”

These comments come amidst Melania Trump’s campaign to get ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel fired. Days before the shooting, the veteran TV personality made a joke about her looking like an “expectant widow.”

“They’re going after comedians because comedians are trusted,” Gavin Newsom stated. “They’re attacking free speech.” Meanwhile, the Justice Department has also indicted former FBI director James Comey for an old Instagram post. It read “8647,” which seemingly hints at getting rid of Donald Trump.

“This is about structurally and institutionally reducing the fabric of truth, trust, and transparency in the United States,” Newsom further added.

Meanwhile, White House spokesperson Davis Ingle strongly condemned Gavin Newsom’s comments. He told Fox News Digital, “Gavin Newscum is the worst governor in America, and he also may be the dumbest. Anyone who thinks President Trump staged his own assassination attempt is a complete moron.”
