Lisa Kudrow shares new take on Friends ‘break’ debate, and the audience agrees

Lisa Kudrow, who played Phoebe in “Friends,” is finally sharing her opinion on whether her on-screen friends Ross and Rachel were really on a break. On Monday, the actress appeared on “The Tonight Show,” where Jimmy Fallon asked Kudrow’s “new thought on the Ross and Rachel’s ‘We were on a break’ debate.

Kudrow joked, saying, “Yeah, I’m afraid now to bring it up.” The host asked her again, “Were they on a break?” to which the actress replied, “Well, no,” triggering a reaction from the audience. “It’s beyond that. It’s beyond break or not, he was a bad boyfriend,” she expressed.

Her response instantly met with a loud cheer and applause from the audience, which surprised the actress, who asked, “Oh, you agree? You agree.” Even Fallon was surprised by the enthusiasm, and after seeing the audience agreeing with Kudrow’s take, Fallon said, “Someone finally said it. He was a bad boyfriend.”

Kudrow then excitedly said that she feels “better” now and even thanked everyone for the cheer. Encouraged, the sitcom star then explained her stance. “We did the reunion just like four, five years ago… we were all so like, ‘They were on a break.’ Like, ‘Rachel, that hysterical shrew, not letting him sleep with someone and won’t get back together,'” Kudrow recalled, before saying that Rachel “shouldn’t have gotten back” with Ross “because he was horrible.”

With the crowd cheering her on, she continued, “To me, it’s like, I don’t care if he slept with three other women or no other women. You had a crisis at work, so you weren’t available for a few nights, and he flipped out. And you’re like, ‘Wow!’” Fallon then asked Kudrow if David Schwimmer, who played Ross on the show, had heard her take. However, Kudrow stayed quiet, which made Fallon say, “He knows now.”
