Michelle Obama shared a hearty laugh with Dave Chappelle after the comedian revealed what his 16-year-old daughter thought about the Trump administration. The moment came shortly after Barack Obama discussed how political developments during the Trump administration created tension in his marriage by drawing him back into politics more than he had intended.
Dave Chappelle made Michelle Obama laugh after Donald Trump roast
Michelle Obama, the former First Lady of the United States, spoke with Dave Chappelle during a new episode of her podcast on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. During the conversation, Obama laughed after Chappelle shared what his teenage daughter thought about Donald Trump.
During the podcast appearance, Chappelle said, “I was trying to explain to somebody, I’m like, ‘You know, my daughter is 16, so Donald Trump is the first white president she’s ever seen.'”
He continued, “And my baby’s like, ‘Oh no! They’re not good at it, Daddy.” This prompted Michelle Obama to laugh before responding, “It’s a hard job. It’s a hard job, I’m trying to tell you, people.”
Days earlier, Barack Obama, who served as president from 2009 to 2017, spoke in an interview with The New Yorker about the strain his marriage experienced because of political developments during the Trump administration. Barack said the political climate drew him back into public life “more than [he] would have preferred,” which created “genuine tension” in his relationship with Michelle.
“She wants to see her husband easing up and spending more time with her, enjoying what remains of our lives,” Barack said in the interview. “It does create a genuine tension in our household, and it frustrates her.”
Since leaving office, Obama has remained an influential figure within the Democratic Party and has continued appearing on campaign trails for Democratic candidates.
