Donald Trump to visit China in May
Donald Trump will visit China from May 13 to 15, according to a BBC report. It also reveals that officials from Qualcomm, Citigroup, and Boeing will reportedly accompany the US President to pursue deals with Chinese companies.
With Trump set to arrive in China on Wednesday, his talks with President Xi Jinping will commence on Thursday. Besides the Iran war and trade, there is speculation that China and the US will have conversations surrounding nuclear weapons, artificial intelligence, and Taiwan. According to Reuters, both countries will reportedly strike a deal on American agriculture and energy.
However, when it comes to the topics surrounding China’s deals with Iran and Russia, an official stated, “The president has spoken multiple times with General Secretary Xi Jinping about the topic of Iran and about the topic of Russia, to include the revenue that China provides to both those regimes, as well as dual-use goods, components and parts, not to mention the potential of weapons exports. I expect that conversation to continue.”
Regarding AI matters, the official said, “What that looks like is yet to be determined, but we want to take this opportunity with the leaders meeting to open up a conversation and to see if we should establish a channel of communication on AI matters.”
On the other hand, the report suggests that the Chinese government has spoken with the US privately and is seemingly not ready to have a discussion on nuclear weapons.
