King Charles shares last conversation with Prince Philip before his passing — report

King Charles is opening up about the last few words he exchanged with his 99-year-old father, Prince Philip, just hours before his death at Windsor Castle. In a BBC documentary, “Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers,” the King revealed that a day before his passing, he discussed plans for his 100th birthday in June, but his father’s wit left him smiling.

“I was talking to him the day before he died, we were talking about his birthday coming up. I said (speaks loudly), ‘We’re talking about your birthday,’ because he was getting a bit deaf. And he said, ‘What?’ And I said, ‘We’re talking about your birthday and whether there’s going to be a reception.’” The laughing monarch then went on to reveal Philip’s response. “And he said, ‘Well I’ve got to be alive for it, haven’t I?’. I said, ‘I knew you’d say that!’,” calling the exchange, “a happy memory.”

As per Hello! Magazine, the documentary was filmed in early 2021 and was originally conceived as part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s 100th birthday celebrations. However, after his passing, it was changed, featuring an interview with the royal family. From Charles, Princess Anne, ex-Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward, and their grandchildren, all were part of the documentary.

Following Philip’s death, according to RadarOnline, Charles spoke publicly from his Highgrove estate in Gloucestershire, saying that he and his family “miss my father enormously.” The then Prince of Wales also described Philip as “a much-loved and appreciated figure” and added that his “dear papa was a very special person.”
