Sydney Sweeney’s character in Euphoria uses slur when compared to Democrat
Sydney Sweeney’s Cassie has evolved in ways that many did not expect in “Euphoria” Season 3. From her controversial storyline as an OnlyFans model to her questionable scenes that have started debates online, Sweeney has had the lion’s share of attention in the new season.
The fifth episode of the season featured another section that sparked major debates, as per Entertainment Weekly.
This episode followed Cassie after her reconnection with Maddie and her rapid rise on OnlyFans. With 50,000 subscribers on her platform, Cassie shoots to stardom after the controversial sequence in the previous episodes. The episode includes a fictionalized version of multi-hyphenate influencer Trisha Paytas’ digital show.
After a montage of such interviews, which also consisted of a fair share of controversial remarks, Sweeney used the R-word when someone from the background of a podcast said, “You sound like a Democrat.” Cassie responded, “I’m not r*******.”
Later, Maddie made an observation about Cassie’s explosive comments, saying, “You know what’s funny? The angrier these idiots get, the more money you make.”
Many interpreted this scene as a nod to Sweeney’s own political controversies. Sweeney, among other controversies, has been a part of the American Eagle controversy, which saw a massive wave of backlash against her.
With some episodes yet to go, “Euphoria” seems to be stirring controversy after controversy each week. The new episodes of the show will air on Sundays on HBO. As of now, the first five episodes are streaming on HBO Max.
