In a conversation with Gayle King on “CBS Mornings“, the 36-year-old actress told the host, “I had a wonderful pregnancy. I worked throughout my whole pregnancy. I had a really rough birth to the point where I almost didn’t make it through. Then the postpartum depression started. I am with this beautiful, healthy baby girl and this very fortunate life. I could not be happy. I was so depressed, and I just couldn’t find my way out.”
Hayden Panettiere further added by saying, “I had all these ideas in my head of what I wanted to do as a mom, as a parent. I think I was also, though at the same time scared because of what my mom did to me, that I might do that to my child,” indicating her complex relationship with her mother, Lesley Vogel, that influenced her approach towards motherhood.
Known for playing strong characters, Panettiere gave birth to Kaya in December 2014, whom she shares with former fiancé Wladimir Klitschko. The couple began dating in 2009. They split in 2011, but rekindled their relationship and got engaged in 2013. However, in 2018, they finally parted ways.
She also discussed her relationship with her daughter, who now lives in Ukraine. Panettiere said, as stated by TMZ, “I’m so blessed to have a great relationship with her. I fly over there as much as I can. I’m on FaceTime with her all the time. She’s now 11 years old, and she’s calling Mommy more and more.”
