Matt Damon reveals the reason he and Tom Holland were jealous of Zendaya on The Odyssey set

Matt Damon shared why he and Tom Holland envied Zendaya on The Odyssey set. It is because Christopher Nolan was impressed with the Euphoria star’s performance and could not stop praising her. Notably, both Holland and Zendaya are working with the acclaimed filmmaker for the first time, while Damon marks his third collaboration with Nolan.

Damon explained in an interview with Elle, “Chris is known for being very circumspect. So when you do a take, it’s not like he says, ‘That was great.’ He’ll go, ‘Yep, good. Okay.’ And that is the equivalent of the greatest praise you could ever get. Zendaya, on the other hand — there were takes where she did one thing, she did this amazing scene, and he said, ‘Cut.’ And then he went, ‘Perfect.’”

The Rip star explained how he and Holland teamed up and were envious of the actor for earning high levels of praise from Nolan. Damon continued, “Literally, Tom and I were obsessed with this. She got a ‘perfect’? I’ve never even gotten a ‘great.’ She got a ‘perfect’? He and I b—-ed about it for the entire rest of the film. ‘Did you get anything today?’ ‘No, I got a “good” — moving on.’ ‘Yeah, me too.’”

The Spider-Man star previously lavished praise on Damon and called him a “leader” on set. In an interview with GQ, Holland gushed, “I mean, we spent so much time together, and what I’m really grateful for with Matt is that he is exactly what I would have hoped he would be like.”

The Odyssey is a cinematic adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem. It boasts a stellar cast including Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, and Robert Pattinson. The film hits cinemas on July 17.
