President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were missing from the celebration, wherein Donald Trump Jr. and Palm Beach socialite Bettina Anderson tied the knot. It was an intimate Bahamas wedding on May 23, as about 50 guests surrounded them. The White House excused the absence on important and urgent government obligations for the president’s absence. However, sources claim that Melania simply refused to go.
Melania Trump didn’t want anything to do complicated Trump family dynamics, claims source
Sources close to the family told Rob Shuter in his Naughty But Nice column on Substack that Melania Trump did not attend Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding because she wanted no part of a weekend with her husband’s older children. A source claimed, “Melania did not want to spend a full weekend with Donald’s adult children from previous marriages.” They added, “That tension has existed for years, even if nobody says it publicly.”
The destination wedding took place on a private island in Exuma, where Don Jr.’s siblings — Ivanka, Eric, and Tiffany attended with their spouses, along with his children from his first marriage. Meanwhile, Melania’s son, Barron Trump, also stayed home, a move sources suggested reflects an enduring emotional rift. An insider noted, “Barron grew up in a completely different world from Don Jr., Eric, Ivanka, and Tiffany,” claiming, “There’s emotional distance there, and everyone in the family knows it.”
Somehow, the First Lady’s decision reportedly did not surprise insiders in the family. She also skipped Anderson’s bridal shower at Mar-a-Lago in April and those who have watched the family dynamic for years describe it as a silent yet firm separation, with Melania allegedly building a protective wall around herself and Barron.
Though they did not attend Don Jr.’s wedding, President Trump and Melania are expected to attend a larger celebration the couple plans to hold at the White House later this year, where political optics and a busy schedule might make the gathering easier to manage.
