Jimmy Kimmel found fresh material in Donald Trump’s family calendar this week. The late-night host used his opening monologue to poke fun at the president’s decision to skip Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding to Bettina Anderson.
For Kimmel, the biggest surprise wasn’t that Don Jr. got married. It was that his father, the President, missed the event altogether.
Jimmy Kimmel throws jabs at Donald Trump for not attending Don Jr. and Bettina Anderson’s recent wedding
During the May 26 episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” the comedian highlighted reports that Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson celebrated their wedding on a private island in the Bahamas surrounded by roughly 40 guests.
“None of whom were his father,” Kimmel joked. The host then read aloud a statement Donald Trump shared on Truth Social explaining why he would not attend the festivities. In the message, the president congratulated the couple but said government responsibilities and his commitment to the country required him to remain in Washington, D.C.
Kimmel couldn’t resist adding his own spin. “See, he can be warm when he wants to,” the comedian quipped. “He loves Don Jr. He just loves the United States more.”
The jokes kept coming. Kimmel questioned how the president could find time for golf outings and public appearances while missing his son’s wedding day. He also poked fun at Trump’s marital history, joking that the president was qualified to offer marriage advice because he had experienced three marriages himself.
“Poor Don Jr.,” Kimmel added. “Without his father, they had to scramble to find somebody else to make a 90-minute toast about windmills and transgender weightlifters.”
The late-night host then referenced reports of Trump appearing at wedding receptions hosted at Mar-a-Lago over the years before jokingly correcting himself when headlines appeared on screen.
According to HELLO!, which cited a marriage certificate, Donald Trump Jr. and Anderson legally married on May 21 in Palm Beach. The couple celebrated with an intimate ceremony before gathering with family and friends in the Bahamas.
According to multiple reports, another wedding reception is expected to take place at the White House, where both Donald and Melania Trump are anticipated to attend.
