Donald Trump said he would be attending the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. The 79-year-old POTUS said, “[We] cannot allow Lunatics to change our way of life, or even its scheduling.”
Donald Trump suggests he will attend a second WH Correspondents Dinner despite assassination attempts…
The dinner, which initially took place on April 25, 2026, but was disrupted by gunfire by 31-year-old suspect Cole Tomas Allen, will now take place on July 24. Weijia Jiang, president of the organizing White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA), announced on the official website of WHCA on June 2, stating, “Rescheduling was not automatic. It was a choice that the WHCA board made after thoughtful consideration and input from our members.”
He further stated, “The event will feature significantly enhanced safety measures and new access procedures. We will share additional details directly with attendees,” adding, “This dinner will not only be an opportunity to carry out our program. It will be a statement that violence has no place in American life and that a free press will not be intimidated into silence. As you have all demonstrated, courage and community can and should rise above.”
Trump also shared the announcement on Truth Social, where he called the rescheduling “a sign of Strength and Fortitude.” He wrote, “This announcement is a very good thing in that we cannot allow Lunatics to change our way of life, or even its scheduling. I was asked to be there and speak by Weijia Jiang, President of the White House Correspondents’ Association, and have accepted. I don’t know whether or not I will give the same rather nasty statements, at least as it concerns certain people, but we will soon find out. In any event, it will be a ‘HOT’ ticket! Interestingly, the location will be The Waldorf Astoria, on Pennsylvania Avenue, a Building and Ballroom that I built.”
The April shooting prompted Secret Service agents to quickly remove Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and others from the stage. The event was attended by the members of Congress, along with Trump’s Cabinet officials and hundreds of journalists. The Office of the United States Attorney wrote, “At the time of [Allen’s] arrest, the defendant was in possession of the Mossberg shotgun with one spent cartridge in the barrel.”
The suspect remains in pretrial detention in Washington, facing life in prison on charges that include attempted assassination of a U.S. president, according to RadarOnline.
