Barron Trump, the son of President Donald Trump and Melania Trump, is said to be an “oddity on campus” at NYU.
Reportedly, Barron is surrounded by heavy security details, which makes it difficult for him to have a normal social life.

The consensus on Barron Trump portrays him as a shadow presence on campus without any sense of belonging. Barron is largely known as a loner, which is made worse by the heavy security detail that follows him from home to campus and back.
Barron is reportedly transported by a fleet of black SUVs from Trump Tower, entering through the garage and exiting through a secret door. Plainclothes Secret Service agents also shadow him on campus, which does not allow for any normal activities. A student said that he had once asked Barron to play basketball. Despite showing initial interest, he “wasn’t really allowed to do stuff”.
Among those who found Barron to be out of place at NYU was Kaya Walker, the then-president of the NYU College Republicans. In a Vanity Fair profile published in 2025, Walker had commented that Barron was an “oddity” who “goes to class, he goes home.” Walker later clarified that her comments were a critique of the unhealthy campus, rather than an insult directed at Barron. However, Walker was forced to resign after her comments went viral.
Barron has also been described as having a “ghostly presence” by gossip columnist Rob Shuter. Meanwhile, Barron has shifted schools to the Washington campus, which is a 15-minute walk from the White House.
Despite speculations that Barron is a loner, his family describes him as a charming “ladies’ man” who remains popular and well-liked among peers.
