Expelled Congressman George Santos may be facing a new investigation by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for suspicious trading.
Santos, who was commuted by Donald Trump, had been referred to the DOJ and CFTC by online prediction marketplace Kalshi.
On the heels of his prison release, George Santos is now being investigated for suspicious trading
Santos had privately placed bets on Kalshi and appeared publicly saying that he would not attend Trump’s 2026 State of the Union address. He followed this by posting a video where he said he would attend, sending the odds of his attendance soaring. He finally skipped the event, saying, “Watching SOTU from an airport TV was not part of the plan! FML.”
Kalshi suggested foul play and manipulation by the disgraced congressman, froze his accounts, and reported him to the DOJ and CFTC, both of whom have opened investigations into the matter.
Santos’s past does not paint a pretty picture. He was expelled from Congress in 2023 after he was caught fabricating his entire resume. He pleaded guilty to fraud and aggravated identity theft related to his 2022 midterm campaign. Santos was sentenced to seven years in prison. However, President Donald Trump commuted his sentence after just three months in prison.
When asked about recent allegations, Santos told NPR, “That’s news to me,” and answered with an ambiguous “I’m not saying yes, I’m not saying no” when asked if he had a Kalshi account. He also added that Kalshi’s co-founder is “a fellow Brazilian” whom he personally knows and would call to demystify the latest investigations.
The news of probable foul play by Santos had angered fellow bettors. “I want George Santos in Kalshi prison for 15 years!!!” said one user after losing money on Kalshi.
DO YOU THINK SANTOS IS REPEATING HIS HISTORY OF FRAUDULENT ACTIVITIES?
