You should always expect the unexpected on Big Brother. Fans of Big Brother Canada are getting a surprise today with the announcement that the show is coming back.
The show was cancelled after 12 seasons in 2024. Declining numbers, a need for more sponsor support, and rising production and licensing costs were all believed to have been factors.
A new network is taking it on with the show set to return next year while we’ll see a new face take on the hosting duties.
BBCAN fans are in for a treat as the show has been revived for Crave and CTV
It’s the news BBCAN fans were waiting to hear. The show is returning for a 12th season in 2027, and the hope is that their new home will provide some long-term stability for the series. In a statement, Bell Media revealed that the upcoming season of the show will begin production next spring. It will air on Crave and CTV. Meanwhile, the American version of the show will also be coming to CTV starting in the summer of 2027.
The Vice President of Global Content at Bell Media, Justin Stockman, is happy to have the show on their network. He says that BBCAN is one of the “most iconic and beloved formats around the world.” Justin adds that he’s looking forward to delivering Canadian audiences with “eventful and unforgettable social gameplay.”
The network isn’t the only new thing about the new season. Someone new will be handling the hosting duties. Andrea Bain from The Social will serve as host.
Arisa Cox hosted the first 12 seasons of BBCAN. She got a nomination for a Canadian Screen Award as host of the show. Many fans will be devastated to hear she won’t also be making a return.
Before its original cancellation in 2024, there were signs of the show being in trouble. Following the conclusion of Season 5, the show went on hiatus. An online petition got plenty of people buzzing, and the show came back on Global with several product placements in place.
