JD Vance Says One Event Changed How Usha Felt About Having More Children

JD Vance revealed that Charlie Kirk’s death played a role in influencing his wife, Usha, to have a fourth child. He shared that he had asked her for years to consider having another baby, but she had always maintained that she was done. However, Charlie Kirk’s widow’s words touched Usha and made her change her decision. Earlier in January, the second lady announced that the couple is expecting their fourth child.

JD Vance talks about wife Usha wanting children

JD Vance opened up about what influenced his wife, Usha, to have a fourth child in an excerpt for his upcoming book published by The Wall Street Journal. He claimed that the death of Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated in Utah, played a key role in the decision to have another child. “As my wife held Charlie Kirk’s widow on the first day of her terrible sorrow, Erika [Kirk] told Usha between sobs that she regretted having only two kids with Charlie,” he said.

He revealed that he had asked his wife for a baby several times, but Usha was reportedly “done.” However, something clicked in her after hearing Erika’s words, following her husband’s death. He said that there was no plan for a baby initially, given their intense scrutiny after stepping into prominent political roles. However, Charlie’s death led Usha to recontemplate the decision. “But something changed for Usha, and not long after we buried my friend, she became pregnant with our fourth child, a boy,” he elaborated.

The political couple shares three kids named Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel, with a fourth on the way. Earlier, in an interview with NBC News, Usha opened up about her recent pregnancy. She said, “We did feel very complete with a third child, in many ways. We have our daughter, who’s amazing, and it was great. And so I just wasn’t sure. But as time passed, I realized that I was feeling more and more excited about that possibility.” She stated that she was happy with three children and had similar feelings about the idea of having another.
