Whoopi Goldberg defends Donald Trump amid Knicks game
Whoopi Goldberg came to a surprise defense of Donald Trump during the Monday, June 8 episode of “The View“. The comedian and host supported Trump’s presence at the Knicks vs. Spurs NBA Finals game on Monday evening. The game took place at Madison Square Garden, where heavy security measures were in place.
“They [the Knicks] are two games ahead in the NBA Finals, but tonight’s triumphant return to the home court at Madison Square Garden has a lot of fans kind of worried, especially after you-know-who accepted an invite from Knicks owner James Dolan,” Goldberg said.
A short clip of Trump telling reporters about accepting the invitation from Dolan then began playing. It also showed the reactions of television personalities like Stephen A. Smith and Donny Deutsch, who argued that neither Trump nor NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani should attend Game 3.
While some audience members agreed with the stance, Goldberg came to the defense of the president for appearing at the game. “I’m sorry. Trump and Mayor Mamdani are Knicks fans, and have been,” she said. The EGOT continued, “They’re New Yorkers. And there’s nothing either one of them can do to change what’s happening in this city, for this team.”
When co-host Sunny Hostin suggested, “Can they jinx us?” Goldberg said, “You know what, I don’t think anything can jinx anything. I think these guys are on a mission!” She added, “They’re like the Blues Brothers: They’re on a mission from God! And they have been winning and doing everything, and you know, you could be buck naked up in the box, and ain’t nobody paying attention!”
Goldberg then stated, “Anybody who’s a Knicks fan should be there. You earned the right as a Knicks fan. I don’t care who you are. I don’t have to like you, I don’t have to dig you.”
The Monday game ended with the San Antonio Spurs claiming a 115-111 victory against the New York Knicks.
