At the UFC Freedom 250 interview on June 14, UFC heavyweight Josh Hokit made a racist and transphobic conspiracy claim about Michelle Obama. Following this, comedian Shane Gillis criticized Hokit’s insulting remarks against the former First Lady.
Shane Gillis wasn’t impressed after UFC’s Josh Hokit insulted former First Lady Michelle Obama
According to the video shared by Fox News, Gillis, who was fired from Saturday Night Live before his debut episode, said he “didn’t like” the remarks.
The 28-year-old Hokit, who knocked out fellow heavyweight Derrick Lewis in the third round to win the fight, gave an interview to Joe Rogan after his win. During the interview, he addressed U.S. President Donald Trump, who was seated in the front row, reports Yahoo Sports. He said, “I’m the man with the plan, the beast that’s ready to feast. You know what? F*** the speech. Shoutout to Trump for having the balls to put some s*** like this on.
He further said, “And if I’m gonna say anything, there’s only one person more incredible than the ‘Incredible Hok’, and that’s my Lord and saviour Jesus Christ.” He then called out Alex Pereira, who was set to face Ciryl Gane in the co-main event, before concluding, “Michelle Obama is a man. Am I right, America?”
In clips circulating online, some in the audience could be heard laughing, while others seemed visibly taken aback by the comments. While Rogan did not address the remarks and simply said, “Ladies and gentlemen, Josh Hokit.”
The fight was broadcast on Paramount+, whose parent company has faced scrutiny after settling a lawsuit with President Donald Trump over a 60 Minutes interview, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Alongside Trump and his wife, Melania, the event was also attended by senior federal officials, media figures, and lawmakers, including FCC Chair Brendan Carr, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and Senate Majority Leader John Thune, reports The Hill.
The claim that “Michelle Obama is a man” is not a new one. It has been repeatedly used against the former First Lady since 2007. As per Marca, in 2025, Errol Musk, father of tech billionaire Elon Musk, also claimed that Michelle Obama is a man. He said, “We realised Obama is a queer who is married to a man who dresses as a woman. We all learned that. It’s not common knowledge.”
