Ben Stiller is an actor, producer, and director, but he is also well-known for being a super-fan of the New York Knicks. Now, he is currently working on a documentary about the NBA team. Notably, the Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs, 94-90, in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, winning their first championship in 53 years.
Super-fan Ben Stiller working on Knicks documentary
Ben Stiller appeared on the June 17 episode of The Roommates Show. Knicks stars Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart host the podcast alongside co-host Matt “Matty Ice” Hillman. When prompted to announce the big news, the “Zoolander” star congratulated the players first. He also noted that he had foreshadowed the win during his appearance on the podcast earlier this year.
“I’m really excited to announce that we are officially making a documentary about the New York Knicks for HBO. And doing it with A24 and official cooperation of MSG. And NBA,” Stiller said. Further, he revealed why he was on his phone courtside during the NBA finals.
“Obviously, I’ve been shooting some stuff on my phone, but it’s kind of gonna be about all eras of the Knicks,” he said. “There’s a culmination here of something that has been going on for a long time, so it’s super exciting. And it’s great to have had all this access to your team, and we’re gonna probably be shooting a little bit more during next season.”
Stiller also stated that he will be reaching out to the players, including Jalen and Brunson, for interviews for the documentary. He said that the timeline will be “over the next year” because they “just started a little bit before the playoff run.” Per The Hollywood Reporter, it will be a multi-part documentary. The project is also expected to provide an unprecedented behind-the-scenes look at the NBA, featuring never-before-seen footage of the team.
