Donald Trump’s White House Renovations Sparked Tension With Melania — Book

Donald Trump reportedly shared a tense disagreement with Melania Trump over his White House renovation plans. A new book about the president details the alleged dispute, revealing the redecorations. The First Lady was reportedly unhappy with some of the changes.

Why Donald and Melania Trump reportedly clashed over White House rooms

Donald Trump reportedly made some significant changes in the White House that his wife, Melania Trump, was not happy with. According to the upcoming book Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump by journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, the president made some changes to the decor that Melania had approved.

The book noted that Donald handed the traditional master bedroom in the White House to Melania. He then turned the adjacent room, known as the second-floor “living room,” into his new personal bedroom. According to the report, the president brought several gold objects to the bedroom that had “vanished” from their original location.

“Items were spirited from the second-floor corridor into the President’s bedroom,” an excerpt from the book obtained by the Daily Mail says. “Sometimes Trump carried the objects in himself, rearranging things across the private quarters on a whim,” authors Haberman and Swan added.

Melania had reportedly made some personal redecorations during Donald’s first term in office. Since the First Lady spent less time in the White House during his second presidency, Donald made some of his own changes.

“Once, when staff gently reminded the president that he was taking things from the Center Hall his wife had personally selected, he made clear he didn’t care,” the book says. Haberman and Swan went on to note that Donald “seemed almost to be competing with her—determined to have the better room.”

“The President’s redecorating generated such a flurry of activity that staff often felt caught between the two Trumps,” the authors said. “Trump’s obsessive focus on interior decorating made the staff yearn for the first lady to return and hopefully rein him in,” they added.
