Katy Perry opens up about her emotional struggles before finding love again with Justin Trudeau
Perry and Bloom, who first crossed paths at a Golden Globes afterparty in 2016 and got engaged in 2019, ended their nine-year relationship in 2025, as per People.
Speaking on the latest episode of The Zane Lowe Show on Apple Music, Perry said, as quoted by the Daily Mail, “Last year was so hard. It was the worst year and the best year. Because there are two sides to every coin, I decided to look at it as the best.” “And like I went to space. I created space for my own life. And then all of a sudden, this huge blessing in my life showed up,” Perry added, while hinting at her relationship with Justin Trudeau.
According to Elle, in July 2025, the pop star fueled dating speculation after she was spotted with the former Canadian prime minister in Montreal. Two months later, reports claimed the pair were officially dating and that the relationship was already becoming serious. Perry confirmed the romance on Instagram in December 2025, and the couple made their red carpet debut in June 2026 at the Tribeca Festival premiere of her Lifetimes Tour concert film.
Sharing how Trudeau has changed her life, Perry said, “It’s wild to look at where I was one year ago exactly. I remember where I was one year ago exactly this year. Last year, in June, I was in the winter on the Lifetimes tour. I was crying. I was in Adelaide. I had just separated. I had been through a lot of you know, just stuff publicly, privately. And I was just like, “holy s**t, this is really intense. Is a person really supposed to feel all this and absorb all this?”
“And then my blessing came, and it was wonderful. It was like God didn’t take me this far to desert me,” the singer further stated, who is set to release her new single Watch It Burn on June 26. Her last album, 143, was released in September 2024, followed by the single Bandaids in November 2025, People reports.
