Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito Embraces Islam While Filming in Saudi Arabia — Report

Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito reportedly embraced Islam recently, becoming one of the latest people to join the world’s fastest-growing religion. This occurred while the 68-year-old was filming a new movie in Saudi Arabia.

The Boys star reportedly embraced Islam while in Saudi Arabia, where he shot the movie 7 Dogs, according to Turki Al-Sheikh, the Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority. The latter said that Esposito decided to follow the religion after a positive experience in the country and interacting with Muslims. Moreover, he claimed that Esposito shared his appreciation for the Muslim community and hospitality (via the Saudi Gazette).

Al-Sheikh revealed that the six-time Emmy nominee recited the Shahada, the Islamic declaration of faith, following which he and some members of the production team prayed at a mosque.

However, Giancarlo Esposito has not shared an official statement addressing his conversion.

According to Al-Sheikh, Esposito is one of two members of 7 Dogs’ production team to convert to Islam. The other one is British producer Cyrus Patel.

It seems the Better Call Saul star’s recent visit to Morocco likely helped set him on the path to embracing Islam. He recounted in an interview with Abraham Radio how his experience seeing citizens with strong faith deeply impacted him.

“It deepens me to come to a country where people have devotion,” he shared. “For me, devotion is everything, to understand that there is one God, one Allah.” He continued, “In your country, Muhammad is everything. For me, it’s the same. I feel the same way in a country that has a devotion to goodness, grace, and God energy.”

He added that the experience changed his life. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of his upliftment as a human being through his understanding of a different culture and its ways of worship, life, and filmmaking. He elaborated, “For me, you are a mirror. All of your people in Morocco are a mirror for who I am. You grow me, you uplift me. And if I’m really looking, I’m seeing the truth, organically and beautifully. So it’s a great sharing.”

Esposito then expressed his wish for Americans to experience Moroccan culture and its beauty. He concluded by emphasizing the importance of inner peace in relation to external peace.
