Grigory Nekhoroshev, a Russian journalist who reported the alleged love affair of Vladimir Putin, has been found dead. He passed away at his home in Latvia, a Baltic NATO member, where he lived in exile for 11 years as a political refugee.

Nekhoroshev, 69, who was editor-in-chief of the Russian newspaper Moskovsky Korrespondent, reportedly died after eating poisonous mushrooms from his garden. He reported in 2008 that Putin was planning to divorce his wife, Lyudmila Putina.
He exposed the love affair and said that Putin was planning to wed Alina Kabaeva instead. The newspaper was effectively closed after the reports on the relationship. Putin responded, ”Those who with their snotty noses and erotic fantasies prowl into others’ lives.” Though Putin and Kabaeva denied it, reports on their relationship continued over the years.
Putin publicly never acknowledged their relationship, but there are some reports of two children, Ivan and Vladimir.
Nekhoroshev fled from Russia to Latvia, fearing assassination. He lived in Latvia as a political refugee for the last 11 years. Despite having an interest in mushroom foraging, he ate mushrooms from his own garden, which turned out to be poisonous.
Bozhena Rynska, a well-known Russian journalist in Latvia, called his loss ‘Incomprehensible.’
Igors Vatoļins, who saw Nekhoroshev, said, ”Nekhoroshev was the first to reveal the name of Putin’s common-law wife, rhythmic gymnastics champion Alina Kabaeva. Putin clearly did not forgive him for that.”
While authorities have reported no foul play in Nekhoroshev’s death, many critics of Putin have reportedly been found dead in several incidents. Semyon Skrepetsky, who is known as a Kremlin critic, was shot dead in Poland.
