Keanu Reeves will reportedly feature in a LEGO movie

As per Deadline, Keanu Reeves could join the new live-action “LEGO” hybrid movie at Universal, with Josh Cooley at the helm. For those unversed, Reeves and Cooley boast a successful partnership. Their collaboration on “Toy Story 4” worked wonders, as the film grossed more than a billion dollars at the global box office and was nominated for a “Best Picture” Oscar.

Jill Wilfert and Ryan Christians are attached to the project and will produce through The Lego Group. The plot details are being kept under wraps, and there is no writer attached to it yet. However, sources say it will be a mix of live-action and animation. Notably, Universal owns the film rights to Lego but has not yet confirmed the news reports.

As per the outlet, Universal landed the rights back in 2020. However, despite their best efforts to get this project greenlit, nothing worked. Insiders shared that after many hits and misses, the studio decided to bank on A-lister Reeves. Universal wanted to recruit Reeves before the rights collapsed. They are specifically developing the story centered on his character.

Initially, seemingly reluctant, Reeves finally caved in and began engaging with the studio. As things progressed, the studio recruited Cooley to pitch his vision, which eventually led to a green signal from the 61-year-old actor.

Notably, the original “LEGO” movies made a bank with a combined $1.1 billion globally. Sources close to the project explain that if the studio didn’t have a film close to pre-production in the next six months, there were chances that they would lose the rights and it would be available for sale again.

More information regarding the new live-action “LEGO” hybrid movie will be revealed in due time.
