Donald Trump Makes Major Claims About Nuclear Inspectors Going to Iran

President Donald Trump says Iran agreed to nuclear inspections, along with another update. Tehran says otherwise. The dispute adds another strain to already fragile peace talks.

The US and Iran are locked in a public disagreement over one of the most critical elements of their peace negotiations: nuclear. Donald Trump claimed on Tuesday that Iran has “fully” agreed to allow United Nations nuclear watchdog inspectors into the country, while Tehran denied making any such commitment.

Trump declared on Truth Social that “Iran has fully and completely agreed to highest level Nuclear inspections long into the future (Infinity!!!),” adding that the deal would ensure “Nuclear Honesty.”

Speaking to reporters, Trump insisted the inspection agreement was firm. He warned that without it, engagement with Iran would end abruptly. “If Iran had not agreed to the inspections, I’d cancel the meetings right now,” he said.

Despite the assertion, he did not specify a date. When asked when nuclear inspectors would be on the ground in Iran, Donald Trump replied, “There’s no rush. They’ll be on the ground at the appropriate time (via PBS).”

Hours earlier in Tehran, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei had already told journalists that no UN inspectors were scheduled to examine the enrichment sites American bombs struck last year. He was swatting down Vice President JD Vance’s claim, who had floated the inspection idea the day before (via NBC News).

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has remained silent on its potential role. The agency has rotated teams in and out of Iran since Israel’s 12-day war in 2025, but it has not been granted access to the heavily damaged enrichment sites targeted by American strikes.

Iran reportedly continues to maintain that its nuclear programme is peaceful. However, the IAEA has long warned that Tehran possesses highly enriched uranium close to weapons-grade levels, material that could be used to build atomic bombs if a political decision were made.
