Prince William’s 3-Word Order to Secretary Before Kate Middleton Wedding Revealed

Prince William‘s former secretary is recalling his wedding to Kate Middleton. The Prince and Princess of Wales tied the knot on April 29, 2011, at Westminster Abbey. Now, in a recent interview, William’s ex-secretary revealed the royal’s surprising words before the ceremony.

Prince William’s private secretary was ‘petrified’ with his order

In an interview with The Times, Prince William’s ex-secretary, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, remembered the future monarch’s three words before his wedding to Kate Middleton. “The wedding was great,” Lowther-Pinkerton recalled, further saying, “I was petrified because he had said to me early on, ‘You’re running it.” The 65-year-old added, “It’s the closest I’ll ever get to a divisional command because you had all these brilliant experts and you didn’t need to do anything. You just needed to set the parameters and let people do what they were so bloody good at.”

Lowther-Pinkerton also reminisced about his awkward meeting with the now-Princess of Wales at Sudbury Silk Mills, where he is currently the Lord Lieutenant. He shared how Middleton warmly greeted him with a kiss, but he almost “headbutted” her out of embarrassment. “I was so embarrassed, I nearly headbutted her. I didn’t know if I should be bowing. It was so sweet of her,” he said. Additionally, Lowther-Pinkerton showered praises on the royal. “She’s a really cool woman,” he said. “[William] chose well. I think they’ll be like my mum and dad. I think they’re great.”

Lowther-Pinkerton was a military veteran. He earned an MBE for his work in the British Army’s Special Air Service and first became an equerry to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Further, he served as the principal private secretary to William and his younger brother, Prince Harry. Lowther-Pinkerton was in the role from 2005 to 2013. He also explained how his military training guided Harry and William during their respective military careers.

“It was important that they did it right and properly,” he said about the careers of the brothers. Lowther-Pinkerton further explained, “That’s how I saw that ten years I had [with them], primarily to get it right so they could say, as my Anglo-Irish father used to say, ‘I’ve known the days. I’ve done it.'”
