Olivia Wilde Has a Response to Those Florence Pugh ‘Screaming Match’ Rumors

Olivia Wilde is finally addressing one of Hollywood’s most talked-about behind-the-scenes rumors. Nearly four years after “Don’t Worry Darling” became a lightning rod for controversy, the director says reports of a heated confrontation with Florence Pugh were never true.

The film’s release was overshadowed by endless speculation, from alleged cast drama to Wilde’s relationship with Harry Styles. Now, the director is setting the record straight about what really happened during production, and why she stayed silent for so long.

Olivia Wilde denies having a ‘screaming match’ with Florence Pugh

Rumors of a feud between Olivia Wilde and Florence Pugh have followed Don’t Worry Darling ever since its 2022 release. A Vulture report at the time claimed the pair had a “blowout argument” and “screaming match” after Pugh allegedly became frustrated with Wilde’s “frequent unexplained absences” from set.

Wilde is now pushing back against those claims. Speaking to The Cut, she said, “I’ve never had a screaming match on my set. I was never not available on set. I wanted to be like, ‘None of this is true.’”

The director revealed she initially wanted to publicly deny the allegations but was encouraged to stay quiet. “I was told, ‘Don’t say a f****** word. Just go out there and smile,’” Wilde told The Cut. “I resent that but it taught me it’s not the way I want to handle things.”

Wilde also reflected on the intense scrutiny surrounding Don’t Worry Darling, which became just as famous for its off-screen headlines as the movie itself. Along with feud rumors, the production was clouded by speculation surrounding Harry Styles, Shia LaBeouf’s departure, and viral moments during the film’s promotional tour.

She admitted that the experience changed the way she views public perception. “It robbed me of my naïveté for sure,” Wilde told The Cut, adding, “I deeply hate the feeling of being misunderstood, too.”

Despite the persistent speculation, more than 40 members of the “Don’t Worry Darling” crew publicly defended Wilde in a joint statement. “There was never a screaming match between our director and anyone, let alone a member of our cast,” the statement read, calling allegations of misconduct “completely false.”

For her part, Pugh has never publicly addressed the rumored feud. However, she previously shared on Instagram that she would “always be grateful” for her experience working on the film.
