Prince William has opened up about his treasured memories with Queen Elizabeth II in an emotional new video.

The Prince of Wales recorded a personal video message from Windsor Castle for a digital memorial honoring Queen Elizabeth II. In it, he shared that some of his most treasured moments with her happened over tea at the Berkshire residence. The 44-year-old revealed that enjoying a peaceful cup of tea with his late grandmother and watching her ride on horseback are memories he will “always hold dear.”

It’s a privilege to know the late Queen better than most,” he remarked. “Some of my fondest memories of my grandmother are from here in Windsor. I remember many a quiet afternoon, having tea with her and my grandfather at the castle, chatting, sharing stories, and seeing how completely at ease she was here, surrounded by family and her much-loved dogs and horses. To this day, she’s given me a love of teatime that I never knew I needed.”

In the video, the Prince further noted, “Watching her ride her horses in the Great Park, even when to her later years, showed a side of Granny the world didn’t often see, off-duty, relaxed, and utterly at home. These moments with my grandmother are ones I’ll always hold dear.”

Per the Daily Express, Prince William often stopped by Windsor Castle to see his grandparents while studying at Eton College. They shared tea and scones in the Oak Room, where the Queen preferred traditional Earl Grey. Most days, she had high tea at 5 pm, which included sandwiches, scones, and Dundee cake, her favorite.

That said, Prince William’s video message is available on the Queen Elizabeth Digital Memorial website.
