The ransom notes in Savannah Guthrie‘s missing mother, Nancy Guthrie‘s, case have been ruled as fake by the FBI. This comes after investigators reported that the previous ransom note claimed that Nancy died after abduction. Nancy was abducted from her home in Tucson, Arizona, between January 31 and February 1.
FBI sources say none of the messages in ransom note was genuine
According to a report by Reuters, the FBI recently stated that the ransom notes involved in Nancy Guthrie’s abduction case are fake. The update concerns the two ransom notes received in early February.
The FBI official, who has kept their identity anonymous, shared the details of an active investigation into the notes. They conveyed, “None of the ransom notes are believed to be genuine.” On the other hand, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, which is leading the investigation, declined to share any details regarding it. A spokesperson told the outlet, “We don’t have any updates, other than this is still an active investigation.” She also stated that the evidence related to the case is still going through forensic analysis.
According to a report by KGUN, the first note demanded $4 million in bitcoin. This price was increased to $6 million by February 9. However, the deadline reportedly passed without any payment.
Later on, a second note appeared, which suggested that the kidnappers were apologizing for the death of Nancy. It also mentioned the kidnappers demanding the original $4 million sum in exchange for Nancy’s body. However, the possibility of an apology being made by the kidnappers was ruled out by sources close to the investigation in a statement to NBC News.
A third note arrived in June, according to a report by TMZ. The contents of the note reportedly included a video of Nancy with the main kidnapper, her last pictures from that day, names, addresses, and ages.
