A stage rehearsal for Donald Trump’s Great American State Fair took a frightening turn when an accident occurred near dancers. The incident, caught on video, adds to a series of setbacks plaguing the 250th anniversary celebrations in Washington, DC.

Video captured the moment when what appears to be a large rectangular section of panelling broke free above the stage and plummeted toward the dancers below. The footage shows roughly 18 dancers split into two formations, mid-routine with music playing. One dancer seemingly glanced upward, registered the falling debris, and sprinted clear before the panel hit the stage with a loud crash.
Two men stood near the impact zone on stage right. It appears that a split second separated them from serious harm. One of the three female singers kept performing momentarily after the crash, before the music cut. The dancers then stopped, looking at the hazard.
Freedom 250 organisers addressed the mishap. A spokesperson confirmed to The Daily Beast that no injuries occurred and explained that the construction work happened behind the stage, separate from where performers rehearsed. “Additional safeguards and senior technical oversight are now in place as preparations continue,” the statement read.
The near-miss comes amid a troubled run for Donald Trump’s Great American State Fair. The president inaugurated the event last Wednesday and promised festivities without parallel. However, organisers have since battled triple-digit heat, lackluster attendance, and security cordons tightened specifically for the president’s scheduled address. Environmental groups have also criticized the fireworks displays.
Trump has pushed back against the criticism via Truth Social. “Do you think people appreciate what a fantastic job we did in building and operating the Great American State Fair at the National Mall, packed with happy people, and everybody loving it?” he posted. He continued, “Ask yourself this simple question, ‘DO YOU THINK THAT OBUMA OR SLEEPY JOE BIDEN COULD HAVE DONE IT?’ THE ANSWER IS NO!”
