Jesse Eisenberg Seemingly Takes Jab at Celebs Who Left US After Donald Trump’s Return

Jesse Eisenberg called out celebrities who left the U.S. after Donald Trump’s presidency. During an interview, the 42-year-old actor-turned-filmmaker said he felt a responsibility to stay in New York and support those navigating a difficult chapter in American history.

Jesse Eisenberg explains why he believes staying in America matters more than moving abroad over politics

At the 60th Karlovy Vary Film Festival, which was held in the Czech Republic and where he was awarded this year’s President’s Award, the Zombieland star said, “I am a very lucky American. I have a nice life. My wife is a teacher, and she teaches a lot of students who are not as lucky as we are. I think we feel, if anything, a responsibility to stay in New York and help those who are struggling through a tougher period in American history. No, I’m not going to leave because I don’t like the politics of America. That seems a little silly, because my life is very good.”

According to Entertainment Weekly, in 2024, Eisenberg, notably, sought Polish citizenship after working on A Real Pain, inspired by his great-aunt, who fled Poland in 1938. Eisenberg and his wife, Anna Strout, both have Polish ancestry. He was granted citizenship in 2025.

Although Eisenberg does not intend to leave the United States amid its current political tensions, several celebrities have chosen to relocate abroad following Trump’s second presidential term. Figures like Ellen DeGeneres, James Cameron, and Rosie O’Donnell are among those who have relocated amid the Republican leader’s presidency, reports The Blast.

After Trump defeated former Vice President Kamala Harris in the November 2024 election, DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, moved to the U.K. and have remained there. DeGeneres described Trump’s win as the breaking point. The 68-year-old said one of her major concerns was the effect of Trump’s leadership on LGBTQ+ rights.

Like DeGeneres, Comedian O’Donnell moved to Ireland in protest of the Republican administration, relocating with her non-binary child. Cameron, who described the U.S. as “extremely polarized,” also moved his family to New Zealand in 2020 and has been based there since.
