In a brutal joke about the Freedom 250 State Fair turnout, Joy Behar of “The View” joked that more people saw the “Melania” documentary than attended the State Fair.
Behar commented while watching videos from the State Fair, which showed a scantily populated fairground.
Joy Behar joked that more people saw the Melania Trump film than those who attended the State Fair
Even though it was meant as a joke, there may be truth in what Behar said. According to The Wrap, the Amazon MGM documentary “Melania,” which offers behind-the-scenes access to Melania Trump as she prepares for Donald Trump’s second inauguration and the family’s return to the White House, opened $7 million earlier this year, exceeding all expectations.
In contrast, the State Fair, which was positioned as “a modern-day World’s Fair celebrating the people, traditions, innovations, and spirit that make America the greatest nation on Earth,” was sparsely populated according to the videos released. “Aw, I feel so bad. What a sad-looking turnout,” Behar joked, adding, “More people went to see the Melania movie!”
Host Alyssa Farah Griffin tried to view it more pragmatically, saying the Fair was less populated due to the Trump administration’s involvement. Griffin also suggested the turnout may have been affected by the event’s proximity to July 4 celebrations and the sweltering weather. “I mean, think about it. You’re in DC — tons of people go for the Fourth of July,” she explained. “They want to see the monuments, there’s a lot to see in DC. But just being on a lawn, when it’s sweltering, an actual swamp…” she said.
The State Fair has had its share of misfortune with multiple performers backing out and anti-Trump graffiti surfacing in the Texas pavilion. The low turnout added to the pile of promises that it did not fulfil.
DO YOU THINK THE STATE FAIR WAS A FAILURE?
