Prince Harry and his brother Prince William reportedly stepped out in London, just a few miles apart, on July 7, but did not meet each other.
The estrangement between the brothers was on full display, as no plans for a sibling reunion have been reported during Prince Harry’s UK visit.
Prince William and Prince Harry carried out separate public engagements in London while remaining estranged during Harry’s visit
According to People, the two brothers had different engagements which they attended – The Prince of Wales visited Ysgol Gymraeg Llundain (The London Welsh School), while his younger brother was 12 miles away at Chatham House attending 14th Invictus Games Foundation Conversation: From Policy to Practice.
The reported animosity between the two brothers stretches back before 2020, when Prince Harry and family moved to California after stepping away from royal duties. The siblings disagreed on many issues, including Prince William’s concern about Prince Harry moving too quickly with his then-girlfriend Meghan Markle. Their dispute reportedly even led to a physical altercation.
More recently, Prince Harry was denied state-funded security for himself and his family for their visit, which may have led to the Duke of Sussex travelling alone. Added to the security drama is the fact that Prince Harry has lost his case against Associated Newspapers Limited, where the judge ruled against him on privacy breach charges. According to the judge, Prince Harry and six other claimants had failed to prove that the publisher unlawfully obtained private information through methods including private investigators, deception, phone hacking or corrupt payments.
Whether these events have intensified the rift between the brothers is not known, as it may just be a continuation of the cold war between them. Robert Lacey, author of “Battle of Brothers,” previously told People that the rift is long-lasting and will not resolve until Prince Harry apologizes to his brother.
