Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking at the federal prison camp in Texas, allegedly sparked a prison lockdown following a dispute over a missing sweater. The incident comes amid claims that the disgraced socialite, convicted of helping to recruit young girls along with her long-time associate Jeffrey Epstein, receives “special treatment.”
The presumed search for Ghislaine Maxwell’s clothing reportedly disrupted normal operations across the prison
The 64-year-old allegedly lost her temper after a $30 zip-up fleece bought from the jail commissary went missing, reports RadarOnline. Insiders said Maxwell notified authorities, claiming her ID badge and important papers were in the sweater pockets.
The search prompted hundreds of inmates to return to their dorms until the missing fleece was located. The lockdown was eventually lifted after an inmate said she had found the item and intended to return it.
A source said, “Nobody had stolen anything. This lady picked it up to give it back to her. It was all an innocent mistake, but they still kept everyone locked down for four or five hours for their investigation.” Adding, “They do this a couple of times a month for a fight, a medical emergency, or a random count – but never for a lost sweater.”
A source claimed Maxwell receives special privileges, including keeping an IBM electric typewriter in her room. The insider said she uses it to write a book she believes will clear her name and leaves a “Do Not Touch” sign on it when unattended.
On June 28, 2022, Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted on multiple charges related to her role in Epstein’s decade-long sex trafficking operation involving minors, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Epstein died in prison in 2019. Maxwell has repeatedly appealed her conviction, but each attempt has been unsuccessful. In October 2025, the U.S. Supreme Court decided not to hear her appeal, reports the BBC.
