Folarin Balogun took to his X account to share an emotional message with fans after losing a FIFA match against Belgium. He wrote, “My debut World Cup. It hurts to wait 4 years to compete at the highest level our sport has to offer. I want to say sorry to our fans; it was not good enough when it mattered most, and we let you down.”

“Soccer in America will only become bigger; the belief, the talent, and the passion are continually growing, and I know the best days are in front of us. The future belongs to those who never stop believing. This moment will fuel us,” he added. “Why not us? For the nation. For the flag,” he said.

Many fans encouraged the footballer; one user commented, “Nobody let anybody down. It was a GREAT run! Great games, great fun! We’ll get ’em next time! ????”

Another wrote, “Your performance this World Cup was top tier and will be talked about for ages, thank you ??”

The US lost to Belgium 4-1; Belgium took an early lead in the first nine minutes of the match. Malik Tillman scored the only goal for the US to level the match, but Belgium scored three more goals. The loss ended the US team’s World Cup dream, according to People.

In the previous match against Bosnia, Folarin Balogun was given a red card that was later reviewed and overturned. Trump admitted that he called Gianni Infantino to ask for a review of the red card. The match drew criticism over Infantino’s decision, influenced by Trump.
