Detectives say the investigation into Ann Widdecombe’s death remains in its early stages despite the arrest
Ann Widdecombe was found dead at her home this week, after which Devon and Cornwall Police launched a murder investigation. According to reports, the former Tory minister was found in a pool of blood on Thursday. Police quickly launched an investigation. During a recent press conference, Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman confirmed that an arrest had been made in connection with the case.
According to The Sun, a 26-year-old man has been arrested in Newton Abbot. However, there is no information regarding the motive or charges against the arrested British National.
During the press conference, Longman said, “We remain open-minded throughout the investigation, and we’re making those enquiries. So [it is] too early for me to comment further on that at this time.”
When asked about any theft at her Dartmoor home, he said, “The key thing I think for us is obviously all our efforts today are focused on this investigation to get the right outcome for her family, friends, but also to make our communities feel safe and confident that we have some of the best officers working on it.”
The arrested individual will remain in custody for questioning. The residents are likely to see police in the area to examine the property. Though there are no confirmed details from the police, Detective Chief Inspector Ilona Rosson mentioned they have deployed the required resources to investigate further.
While the investigation is ongoing, the former colleagues continue to pay tribute to Widdecombe after her shocking murder.
