What happens when a music star keeps changing their lyrics? They drive fans into a frenzy!
Singing star Ariana Grande has been repeatedly changing the lyrics for a song dedicated to ex-boyfriend Ricky Alvarez, driving up speculation about their relationship.
Ariana Grande changed her Thank U, Next lyrics for Ricky Alvarez again on July 13
According to Just Jared, Ariana Grande has been changing the lyrics to “Thank U, Next” consistently across shows. The latest change brings the total to three iterations of the song on the Eternal Sunshine Tour.
In her latest July 13 show, Grande sang, “Wrote some songs about Ricky, we always find our way back.” As the third iteration of the lyrics, this has fans wondering whether Grande and Ricky Alvarez are back together.
The song may just have chronicled their changing relationship, or so the fans guess. The lyrics of the couplet have undergone major changes over three shows, signalling that something is cooking between the ex-couple.
Grande usually opens the song referencing all her exes. She sang, “Wrote some songs about Ricky / Now I listen and laugh.” However, in a June 24 show, she changed the lyrics to, “Wrote some songs about Ricky / Now they kinda slap.” This song was followed by a sighting of Grande and Alrez together in Texas City.
The playing with the lyrics did not stop there. On a June 26 show, she sang, “Wrote some songs about Ricky, I know he still got my back.” Alvarez was attending the very show and standing beside her parents in the VIP section. On her latest June 13 show, she changed the words again, singing, “Wrote some songs about Ricky, we always find our way back.” Grande also spent the July 4 holiday by getting on Alvarez’s Instagram and liking all of his posts.
Ariana Grande dated backup dancer Ricky Alvarez from 2015 to 2016, and later gave him a lighthearted mention in her 2018 hit. The 33-year-old singer is newly single after splitting from Ethan Slater.
