The satirical art group known as the Secret Handshake has reportedly erected a 10-foot-tall statue of a giant gold “participation trophy” at the National Mall. The trophy mocks Donald Trump and his role in the ongoing war in Iran. Outlets like The Washington Post have reported the contents of a plaque that appears under the trophy.
“We hereby award President Donald J. Trump this participation trophy for his enthusiastic involvement in the Iran War,” the plaque reads. “While some concern themselves with military strategy, diplomacy, or measurable outcomes, President Trump demonstrated the courage to participate regardless of the final score.”
The group added another sarcastic jab at Trump, saying, “As the recipient of this prestigious award, President Trump joins the ranks of children everywhere who received recognition for simply showing up. With honor, the Secret Handshake Prize Committee.”
The Secret Handshake added a second plaque near the trophy, encouraging the public to dedicate their own trophies. “No accomplishment is too distant, too small, or too unearned to bestow on President Trump,” the plaque read. Many visitors have since brought their own trophies to place under the statue.
White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly has recently given a statement, responding to the artistic jab. “These untalented ‘artists’ should stick to their ugly ‘art’ and refrain from weighing in on foreign policy — which they clearly know nothing about, given the fact that the United States Military achieved all of its objectives during Operation Epic Fury,” she said.
The satirical art piece comes shortly after Trump lifted the ceasefire agreement with Iran. The U.S. has since launched a fresh set of military strikes on the country.
