Rapper YG is back in the spotlight after facing another police encounter on Thursday morning during a law enforcement operation in California. Officers detained him for a while before they released him. The incident occurred hours before his planned VERZUZ battle against fellow rapper The Game.
Rapper YG was detained as police executed a search warrant tied to Drakeo the Ruler’s murder investigation
Law enforcement sources told TMZ that a SWAT team responded around 7 a.m. PT in Burbank, California. Officers detained YG during the operation but released him. According to the sources, the California Highway Patrol led the operation, with assistance from the Burbank SWAT team.
The source reported that officers executed a search warrant as part of the investigation into Drakeo the Ruler’s murder. Apparently, there was a public feud between YG and the late rapper. YG has stated that he did not have any involvement in the killing of Drakeo the Ruler.
Drakeo the Ruler was fatally stabbed backstage at the Once Upon a Time in L.A. festival in December 2021. Investigators have previously reviewed surveillance and cellphone footage while trying to identify those responsible for the rapper’s death. YG has not been identified as a suspect in the killing, as per TMZ.
The timing drew attention because YG remains scheduled to face The Game in their “Compton Forever” VERZUZ battle on Thursday night. The event is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. PT. The morning police response came just hours before the West Coast showdown. No changes to the event have been announced.
TMZ also reported that YG had another encounter with the cops in Burbank before. He was arrested there in October 2024 for a misdemeanor DUI for being outside of a car that had overrun a curb. Thursday’s detention was carried out without an arrest. No charges have been made against YG in the investigation.
