Reid spoke to the reporters in a video shared by TMZ after practice at the Chiefs’ training camp in Missouri. The three-time Super Bowl-winning coach began by addressing the family’s difficult situation. He expressed support for his longtime assistant and his loved ones.
“Our hearts go out to Eric Bieniemy and his family,” Reid said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them.” He added that Eric had a strong support system surrounding him. “He’s got a great support group here, as does his family.”
Reid also provided an update on Mia’s condition following the reported shooting. The 57-year-old was reportedly struck at least twice during the incident. The injuries reportedly affected her torso and arm. Reid said Mia’s condition was stable following the shooting.
“Mia is stable, which is a plus,” Reid said. His brief update offered some reassurance about the wife of his offensive coordinator. However, Reid said he could not discuss further details about the situation. “I can’t get into details on it,” he explained.
The shooting reportedly occurred at the family’s Virginia home shortly before 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Their youngest son, 27-year-old Elijah Bieniemy, was arrested following the incident. He faces charges including malicious wounding and firearm-related offense. Authorities reportedly arrested him in connection with the shooting.
Elijah is currently being held without bond at a Loudoun County jail. His charges reportedly include using a firearm during a felony. He also faces an allegation involving discharging a firearm inside a dwelling. The case remains under investigation as authorities continue examining the incident.
