Tony Romo’s case has taken a new turn after an allegation that police found an open container of alcohol in the car he was driving. The former Cowboys QB was arrested in Milwaukee on suspicion of operating while intoxicated (OWI) on July 23.

New details have emerged in Romo’s OWI case after the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office released three citations related to his arrest. One citation alleged that officers found an “open bottle of an alcoholic beverage” on the passenger side of his black Jeep, reports the New York Post.
According to the citation, a deputy found the item while taking inventory of Romo’s vehicle before it was towed. Romo faces a $267 fine for the alleged open intoxicant offense. He was released and is due in court on September 21.
Romo’s second citation involved an alleged unsafe passing violation. Police claimed in the document that he used the right-hand distress lane to pass other vehicles during rush hour before crossing a marked gore area to reach his destination. The alleged offense carries a $235 fine for Romo.
The final citation was for alleged operating while under the influence. The offense carries a $1,066 fine. Court records reveal that Romo also received a citation for allegedly refusing to submit to an intoxication test following his arrest. As per the body camera footage released to the outlet on July 28, Romo told officers he was coming from a golf course and was on his way “to visit grandma and grandpa” when he was pulled over.
Romo spent his entire NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys from 2003 to 2016. He also had a high-profile romance with Jessica Simpson from 2007 to 2009. After retiring from football, Romo began his career as a CBS game analyst in 2017. He married model Candice Crawford in 2011, and they have three children, per a BBC report.
