Ex-BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond has shared her take on why Meghan Markle was present for her children’s meeting with King Charles. During their overseas visit, the Sussex family met the King and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House on July 10.
The gathering marked His Majesty’s first in-person encounter with his grandkids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, since 2022. The couple now raise their two children at their home in Montecito, California.
Commenting on the meeting with the King and Queen, Bond suggested that Markle was likely there to shield Archie and Lilibet. She noted that staying away could have led the kids to question her absence, as per the Daily Express.
The journalist explained, “It’s a good thing that [Meghan] was part of the family reunion at Highgrove a few weeks ago. This is especially as “the children deserve to see some family harmony: it would have been damaging to have to explain that their mother wasn’t invited.”
Ms Bond described Meghan Markle as astute and conscious of her standing in the UK. She suggested that the Suits alum likely centers her focus on three key areas. “I think her eyes are firmly set on their lives in California, their children and her business ventures,” she concluded.
Prior to this visit, the As Ever founder had not been to the UK in four years. Before this trip, the Duchess had last been in the UK in September 2022 to attend Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral. Latest reports suggest that Meghan Markle feels delighted to be back home in the US after the trip.
