After his lawsuit against British tabloids ended in a defeat last month, Prince Harry has earned the label of “desperate duke.” The Duke of Sussex, along with six others, accused Associated Newspapers Ltd., the publishers of the Daily Mail, of engaging in unlawful activities. However, a judge dismissed the claims and ordered the claimants to pay a hefty sum as legal costs.

According to an August 2 report from Express.co.uk, TalkTV presenter Kevin O’Sullivan called Prince Harry a “desperate duke” over the loss of his privacy lawsuit. The High Court heard of the shortfall between the claimants’ insurance cover and ANL’s costs. Hence, Harry and his co-claimants have to pay more than £34 million.
Speaking of Harry, O’Sullivan said, “The dim Duke now faces the grim prospect of a personal bill adding up to more than two and a half million pounds. That’s $3.3m in America and getting on for $5m Aussie dollars. Can he afford it? Can he hell.” He also stated that Harry has allegedly turned to co-claimant Sir Elton John to “pick up the tab.”
The TV presenter continued, “The runaway royals’ bright idea to tap into the rocket man’s vast wealth was swiftly extinguished like a candle in the wind. Word is that Harry and Elton’s bruising battle to bash the British press has taken a terminal toll on their once close friendship, leaving the desperate Duke with no one to turn to for financial help.”
Justice Matthew Nicklin had rejected Prince Harry’s lawsuit in its entirety (via AP News). He stated that there was insufficient evidence to support the claims and suggested that the information may have originated from legitimate sources. Associated Newspapers Ltd. called it an “overwhelming victory” and a “magnificent vindication” of the tabloid’s journalism. They had denied the allegations, claiming that lawful sources such as friends, royal aides and publicists had offered the information published.
