Hilary Duff brought Good Charlotte onstage at Madison Square Garden. Her ex Joel Madden joined her for a pop-punk classic in front of the crowd.
She called two familiar faces to the stage in the middle of her New York show, and one of them shares more history with her than most of the crowd realized. The song they played turned twenty-four this year.

“Can you please give the warmest welcome to my friends Good Charlotte?” Duff asked the crowd at her Lucky Me Tour stop.
Benji and Joel Madden then joined Duff and her band onstage for the raucous track, which appeared on Good Charlotte’s 2002 album The Young and the Hopeless.
The Hilary Duff concert marked one of two dates she played at the venue. She announced the tour earlier this year in support of her most recent album, Luck … or Something. It kicked off in June, and she heads to the U.K. next before wrapping in Mexico City on February 12, 2027.
Duff returned to music late last year with her comeback single “Mature,” followed by “Roommates.” “Luck … or Something” arrived February 20 via Atlantic and became her first new album in over a decade, following 2015’s “Breathe In Breathe Out”.
She opened 2026 with the Small Rooms, Big Nerves Tour, where she performed “What Dreams Are Made Of” from 2003’s The Lizzie McGuire Movie for the first time ever.
Her history with Joel Madden stretches back further than the collaboration suggests. The two dated from 2004 to 2006 and have stayed close since. They often spend time together with their partners, Duff’s husband Matthew Koma and Madden’s wife Nicole Richie.
“I have a good relationship with their whole family,” Duff told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live in 2023. She added, “I think people were like, ‘What?’ We’re neighbors and we actually hang out all the time. I was just in her driveway honking for her to come drink wine with us the other day.”
