Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are celebrating the arrival of their baby daughter. And while the couple has yet to reveal her name, royal fans believe a long-standing family tradition may have already hinted at one meaningful detail: her middle name.
Royal tradition might reveal Princess Eugenie’s newborn daughter’s middle name
The couple welcomed their third child on Monday in Lisbon, Portugal. Princess Eugenie later announced the happy news on Instagram. She shared a sweet photo of her newborn lying on her stomach in a pink onesie.
“Jack and I are so excited to announce Baby Girl Brooksbank!! We are beyond in love with our girlie,” she wrote.
The announcement quickly drew thousands of congratulatory messages. Fans also started speculating about the baby’s name. While Eugenie has kept her daughter’s first name private, many believe history could point to her middle name.
Several royal women carry Elizabeth as a middle name to honor the late Queen Elizabeth II. Because of that tradition, many royal watchers believe Baby Brooksbank could receive the same tribute. The custom spans several generations of the royal family, per The Royal Observer.
For the unversed, Princess Anne’s full name is Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise. Her daughter is Zara Anne Elizabeth Tindall. Princess Beatrice also carries Elizabeth as her middle name. She passed it on to both of her daughters, Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi and Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi.
Princess Charlotte’s full name includes Elizabeth, as does Lady Louise Alice Elizabeth Mary Mountbatten-Windsor. Other family members with the tribute include Lena Elizabeth Tindall and Isla Elizabeth Phillips.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also paid tribute to the late Queen by naming their daughter Princess Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, using Queen Elizabeth II’s childhood nickname. Interestingly, Princess Eugenie does not have Elizabeth among her own names.
She is formally known as Princess Eugenie Victoria Helena, with her middle name, Victoria, honoring Queen Victoria, while her older sister, Princess Beatrice, already carries the Elizabeth tribute.
Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank have also embraced meaningful family names for their children. Their eldest son, August Philip Hawke, honors Prince Philip as well as members of Jack’s family. Their younger son, Ernest George Ronnie, pays tribute to several relatives, including King George V, Jack’s father George, and Eugenie’s grandfather, Major Ronald Ferguson.
For now, the couple is keeping their daughter’s full name under wraps. Until they reveal it, royal fans will continue to speculate whether another Elizabeth will soon be added to the royal family tree.
